The Witcher Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

1. It's Probably The Best Video Game Adaptation Ever

This might sound like a back-handed compliment, because it's fair to say that neither movies nor TV have a track record of respectfully adapting video games.

And though this is technically more an adaptation of the books than the games, it's still clear that care has been taken to translate the game's visual identity to a new medium.

Hollywood is at least getting better at respecting fans in this regard - take the not-bad Detective Pikachu released earlier this year - and there's a fair argument to be made that The Witcher, flaws and all, is the most faithful tonal and stylistic adaptation of any video game IP to date.

Gamers are still waiting for their first truly great video game movie or TV show, but The Witcher does nevertheless mark another baby step forward in giving the fans what they so thoroughly deserve.
