The Witcher Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

5. Yennefer & Ciri Steal The Show
Despite being the "protagonist" of The Witcher series, Geralt often ends up taking a backseat to the two other central characters, who are ultimately far more interesting than him.
Freya Allan (above) does a fantastic job bringing a tortured anxiety to the role of the put-upon Princess Cirilla.
She suffers far more than any major character in the show, yet also has just enough agency to be interesting, and the end of the season certainly lays an interesting seed for her future in the role.
But the show's greatest accomplishment is unquestionably its depiction of Yennefer, played with an early vulnerability and a later sexy exuberance by Anya Chalotra.
It'd be a demanding role for any actress, and though some of the character's development is harmed by the massive time skip she's forced to suffer through, her arc is still the closest The Witcher ever gets to being truly unique.
