The X-Files: 10 Overlooked Episodes That Are Secretly Classics
1. Eve - Season 1, Episode 11
Even in its earliest days, it was plain to see that The X-Files was something truly special, and 'Eve' is definitive proof of that.
It begins with Mulder and Scully investigating the death of a man who was found in his back garden, completely drained of his blood. This sounds fairly routine at first, but it's then revealed that another man has been found in the same manner on the opposite side of the country, which leads the agents to discover that despite both men having no known connection, their daughters are identical twins.
From there we go down a rabbit hole of madness, unethical genetic experiments, and creepy children. Which despite sounding a little scattershot in terms of ideas, works together beautifully to create something unique.
What makes 'Eve' such a classic though, is that it's perhaps the most perfect distillation of everything that the show does right. Taking the viewer on a journey that shocks, surprises, and most importantly entertains.
It constantly keeps its cards to its chest and drip-feeds us just enough information at pre-determined intervals that we're compelled to discover more - much like how Mulder and Scully themselves feel in their search for the truth.
Truly great stuff.
