The X-Files: 10 Questions We Still Need Answered

5. Why Isn't Mulder Immune To The Spartan Virus?

Scully's alien DNA made her immune to the Spartan virus - the disease attacking human immune systems, making them susceptible to all sorts of otherwise benign ailments. The big question is - why wasn't Mulder also immune? Remember that in seasons six and seven, we saw a storyline unfold where Mulder, who was exposed to the alien black oil and the virus it carries back in fourth season, essentially became something of an alien-human hybrid himself. This resulted in the Smoking Man having an operation performed in which he had some of Mulder's genetic material mixed with his own, to give himself immunity to the alien virus. If, presumably, Mulder and Scully have been through similar experiments over the course of the show, why is one immune and the other not? We're not the only ones asking this question - Chris Carter, the show's creator, also highlighted it as something that needed answering in a recent interview with TVLine.
