The X-Files: 10 Things Every Fan Needs To Know About The New Episodes
9. A Very Special Guest Star Will Bring A Sense Of Community To The Show
Joel McHale, the well-known host of The Soup and star of the sitcom Community, will star in the first couple of episodes as Tod O'Malley, the right-wing anchor of a lowbrow talk show. It is O'Malley who points Mulder and Scully in the direction of their first X-File mystery. However, the smartly suited-up anchor seems to spend more time perfecting his hairdo than learning about the former FBI agents' backgrounds, because at one point he feels he needs to explain the concept of memory implants to them. Mulder thanks the man in deadpan fashion before Scully adds "We're familiar with the syndrome." Reassuringly, this exchange already sounds just like the X-Files of the good old days. McHale could hardly believe his luck when he was offered the part. He is a long-term devotee of the show and had this to say in interviews about being on set with Dana Scully and Fox Mulder: "Mind. Blown." Fans can empathise with how he must have felt.
