4. Mulder's Room Contains Plenty Of Surprises

When audiences first see Fox Mulder in this new series, they're going to be in for a shock. There's not only his dishevelled appearance to contend with, but also his precarious mental state (more on those things later). Another warning sign that all is not well with Mulder is that he's started spending most of his days holed up in his living room. Since the dressing of this set is so important to conveying the sense of a troubled Mulder, the crew of the X-Files have taken delight in hiding lots of Easter eggs throughout the room. Obviously, it wouldn't be the X-Files without lots of newspaper clippings, maps, and photos pinned to the wall. Just as unsurprisingly, these artefacts share a theme of UFO sightings. But when the series airs, take a closer look at the iconic "I Want To Believe" poster of just such a UFO taking pride of place near the centre of this obsessive display - it's actually made up of hundreds of minuscule photos. The collage is the work of the fan group X-Philanthropy, who sold spots to fellow X-Philes to raise money for the South African Youth Education for Sustainability (SA-YES) charity co-founded by Gillian Anderson. On a less savoury note, the video cassettes stacked next to the VCR are intended as a subtle reminder to long-time fans of Mulder's predilection for watching porn.
