No way can The X-Files satisfy fans with just one episode left this season. Sadly, it seems the show bit off more than it could chew in insisting on including a full four standalone, monster of the week style episodes sandwiched between two mythology outings. While it was an attempt to placate a vocal portion of the fan base who didn't wish to tag along with the ever-increasingly complex alien conspiracy mythology that is the backbone of the show, it also meant that the overall story of Mulder and Scully could only be pushed forward in fits and starts. Now, with one episode remaining, it's clear that more screen time is necessary. Thanks to strong ratings, the show may get just that, but nothing is certain, and if production company 1013 do get a third chance, they need to hit the mark.
