The X-Files Revival: 10 Things We Learned From The Season Finale

6. Reyes Sold Out

So for the past ten years, Special Agent Monica Reyes has been the Smoking Man's keeper. This apparently took place after he was badly wounded by a missile attack, and summoned the FBI agent to his (well protected) hospital bedside. This particular development actually made some sort of sense, and might have been the best plot twist, and return supporting character appearance, of the season. Back in the sixth season, it turned out that Agent Fowley (Mimi Rogers) was in cahoots with the Smoking Man, so there's precedent for him utilizing Mulder's "inner circle" - or at least those he considered friends/trusted co-workers - to his own end. While it's a bit of a retread, Reyes was the true believer type that would have instantly accepted the man's tale of an oncoming plague, and joined up with him perhaps to secretly derail his plan. At least we hope so. Otherwise she joined to save her own skin. And either way, she pretty much sold out, but we'll forgive her for it.
