The X-Files Revival: 10 Things We Learned From The Season Finale

3. The Smoking Man Saved Scully

One of the interesting tidbits of the early X-Files episodes was how the Smoking Man seemed to have a soft spot for Dana Scully. "I like her too, that's why she was returned to you" he told Fox Mulder in the show's second season, after Scully reappeared following her abduction. And here, all these years later, it seems the Smoking Man set Scully up... to live. "He saved you" Mulder tells her, and he's right. It was the experiments on Scully that made her immune to the plague witnessed in My Struggle Part 2, experiments that were ordered no doubt by the Cancer Man. Interestingly, an ongoing gag has been the idea that Scully never dies, something first mentioned in Cylde Bruckman's Final Repose. It seems to be reinforced in My Struggle Part 2 when it's learned that her alien DNA makes her immune to what otherwise looks like the apocalypse. So, umm, thanks, Smoking Man. You're still evil though.
