The X-Files: Every Season 10 Episode Ranked Worst To Best
5. Babylon
For one reason or another, the penultimate episode of the season decided to feature Mulder and Scully being brought into a case of terrorism - not even an actual X-File - in a relatively misguided attempt in tackling issues of Islamophobia. It's an odd choice, even if still relevant to the times, but the episode managed to find little to any strength in either its structure or its overall message, losing its way early in the episode and never quite regaining its footing thanks to a number of issues. Notably, the episode introduced the oft-grating Agent Einstein and the personality-less Agent Miller - immediately raising red flags, especially thanks to their return in the finale, that they were being set up to replace Mulder and Scully - while, as usual, relegating Skinner to a tiny sliver of screentime. Throw in a missed opportunity to have Mulder and Scully finally (and appropriately) kiss again at episode's end but instead choose to pull out and show Earth to The Lumineers' "Ho Hey" and it's already enough to leave one wondering what they're watching. But the one scene everyone will likely always remember is Mulder's drug trip scene, a hilarious - and, considering the rest of the episode's subject matter, somewhat hilariously out-of-place - sequence that served as the episode's highlight, though it maybe went on a bit too long and disappointed many who were hoping The Lone Gunmen would be revealed to still be alive. Love it or hate it, it spiced up an otherwise lackluster episode, though it wasn't enough to elevate it anywhere near some of the series' best.
