4. A New Syndicate May Have Formed
The Syndicate was a shadowy cabal of government figures, a global conspiracy to both aid in alien colonization and secretly work against it. Led by figures like The Smoking Man and the Well-Manicured Man (later assassinated by a car bomb), it loomed large over the middle seasons of the show and the first big screen X-Files adventure.
What's left of the syndicate these days? Not much, but enough that the Smoking Man has retained some of his power. However, a scene from the Season 11 trailer seems to indicate that there might be some new members, or perhaps even a splinter group at work.
There are a couple of key lines that point to this. Midway through the trailer, a very-syndicate looking figure is heard saying "kill him before he kills us all." Later, this same figure says that "we want to save humanity" - to which Mulder answers with the "you want to see blood in the streets" line. Aside from looking like a Syndicate member, this character uses "we" and is seen with a shadowy female figure standing in the background.
Whether or not he's in cahoots with the Smoking Man or against him, it seems like the alien conspiracy is alive and well.
