Thunderbirds Are Go! - 10 Things You Need To Know

7. The Redesigned Thunderbird Vehicles Look Great

There's always a temptation when a programme is being rebooted to change the look of the central elements of the show. When Doctor Who was revived in 2005, most TV insiders expected Russell T. Davies to change the TARDIS from a police box into something more modern, like a portaloo. Davies was horrified at the very idea and refused to even consider the suggestion, and the creators of Thunderbirds Are Go! must have taken the same protective stance when it came to the iconic five Thunderbird vehicles. The trailer makes it clear that the Thunderbird rescue vehicles are still very much the same ones fans loved as children. True, there have been a couple of minor modifications - Thunderbird 2, for example, has better VTOL jets. The biggest redesign has to be for Thunderbird 5, the orbital Communications and Logistics Hub from which John Tracy keeps a lookout for disasters. Given how 1960s the original Thunderbird 5 was, the update is not unexpected, and the new version contains many elements, such as the antenna, that give a discreet nod to the previous shape.
