Titans Season 2: 5 Ups & 1 Down From ‘Ghosts’

3. The Fight Scenes

Ever since the infamous "F*ck Batman" fight in the pilot, the-powers-that-be in Titans have gone all out to prove that there's more to the show than relentless violence and superhero angst. How have they done that, you ask? Well, it's simple really: by producing some of the most entertaining and expertly choreographed fight scenes on superhero TV. And in spite of giving us some greats already, the show may have just produced its two strongest fight scenes this week.

The first of these fight scenes saw a frustrated Dick Grayson battle newcomer Rose Wilson, as the duo let off some steam and unleashed their unique offence (or should that be defence?) on each other in a training session, while the second saw an equally frustrated Jason Todd overcome a beating from Dr. Light before hammering him into oblivion.

Both were undoubtedly visually impressive and strongly choreographed, but what makes these particular showdowns more attention-grabbing than Robin's hard-hitting criminal smackdowns, Dove's contemporary dance-like hurricanranas or Raven's CGI monster-mash with Trigon?

The answer to that question is how both of them were incredibly effective tools of furthering the story which, in turn, allowed the visuals to complement the narrative. Through their training, Dick and Rose learned a lot more about each other and what they were capable of, while Jason proved that, in spite of his pig-headedness, he isn't above taking Dick's advice - suggesting that he really does think highly of his Boy Wonder predecessor.
