Titans Season 2: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Rose'

1. Not Enough Focus On The Central Characters (Other Than Dick)

As we delve into a little bit later, the episode successfully managed to integrate Rose into the central storyline because that storyline was at the heart of the episode. However, while the characters involved in that storyline were also present for most of it, they were just kind of there and weren't really explored to the extent that they should have been.

Of course, Dick had some nice character moments, but the rest... not so much. Sure, Rachel dreamed of more darkness (and had the scratch marks to prove it) but what did she really do during the rest of the episode? Jason was appropriately moody, and apparently hard to live with, but did we actually see any of that take place (and no, a heated mid-battle rant doesn't count)? And then you have poor sweet underappreciated Gar, who spent a lot of time on-screen with the others but didn't have any juicy material of his own.

As for Kory and Donna? Well, their attempts to track down Shimmer were great, but they just weren't on-screen enough.

This is a pretty minor gripe considering this was the beginning of a brand new story and, as most of the characters are now coming together, it's one that will undoubtedly be non-existent going forward. That said, it would have been nice to see them interact as characters more (rather than plot devices) and perhaps even witness how they all got to know each other better without any major threats looming over them - especially as they all barely knew Jason beforehand.

Now, for the positives...
