Titans Season 2: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Rose'
1. "If I'm Robin, Who Are You?"
While the back half of Season 1 made it pretty clear that Dick Grayson was no longer Robin, his reinforcement of it in a statement to Jason Todd in this week's installment forced the latter to ask him who he was instead. And that's really what Titans' overarching narrative has been about thus far: Who is Dick Grayson if not Robin?
The once-energetic partner of Batman was long gone before the show even began, leaving an emotionless shell in his place, but Dick's angst-filled journey throughout the first season eventually saw him overcome his darkness and, in doing so, it's left him (and us, as viewers) a little inquisitive as to what's next.
That's what much of 'Rose' was about, as it explored the character's attempts to be a mentor to these young and hopeful heroes. Determined, impassioned and inspiring at one moment, he's also confused, lost and guilt-ridden in others - but that's a Dick Grayson that can learn from his mistakes and eventually become the leader he's destined to be. And his conversation with Bruce highlighted the irony of it all - he's been so preoccupied with running away from his similarities to Batman that he didn't even realise he was developing all the best traits of Bruce Wayne.
That, in a way, has brought his initial character arc full-circle - and what an effective way to do it.
