Titans Season 2: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Rose'

2. The Tone Continues To Improve

In terms of tone, Season 1 was all over the place. It was broody, violent and depressingly dark most of the time, and yet it was also occasionally light-hearted and even a little funny. It was clearly struggling to figure out what it was and tried out a bit of everything. Of course, this was a case of too much-too soon, but somewhere in the midst of that indistinguishable collection of genres, there was promise.

Season 2 appears to have fine-tuned that tonal promise, as 'Rose' carries on from where the season premiere left off - fully capitalising on the more light-hearted elements of the show. From the fact that Dick gets coffee with Rachel for a catch up, to Donna and Kory's playful bickering in the midst of their heroics, it finally felt like we were watching a show infused with the vibrancy and immaturity of young superheroes. It was funny, action-packed and a whole lot of fun - and that ultimately made for a more enjoyable watch.

It's rather fitting that the show has dropped the gloomy tint that remained present throughout the whole of the first season, because Titans' dark days are truly over - in more ways than one.
