Titans Season 2 Finale: 6 Ups & 5 Downs From ‘Nightwing’

1. Donna's Death

Titans Nightwing Donna Troy Wonder Girl

The moment that fans noticed Donna Troy's absence from a funereal scene in the trailer for the Season 2 finale, their minds instantly jumped to conclusions. Nonetheless, those fans (this writer included) hoped, begged and waited for it to be nothing more than a well-crafted red herring.

With that in mind, you can imagine how disappointed we all were to find out that we were right all along. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Wonder Girl is dead - and fans are understandably disgruntled.

But it's not just the death that was bothersome (even though it was completely unnecessary), it was the circumstances that really let it down. After successfully overcoming two near-invincible threats in Deathstroke and Superboy, we're expected to believe that Donna was simply killed holding up an electrical beam... a beam that Superboy could have easily grabbed instead? You see the problem, here?

The fact of the matter is that the writers couldn't have had Donna die in either battle because that would've spawned guilt and darkness - both of which the show is eager to leave behind. Had she been killed by Conner, he would have spent next season in a deep depression over his actions and had she been killed by Deathstroke, we would have been in for yet another season of Dick's self-loathing.

The writers should have taken that as a hint that maybe they shouldn't be killing Wonder Girl right after the Titans officially united. More to the point, maybe they should have taken it as a hint that they shouldn't be killing Donna at all. The death was undermined by how meaningless it was, and in all honesty, fans would rather see Conor Leslie kicking ass in that awesome suit for another season instead of, well, whatever this was supposed to be.

Now, for the positives...
