The Simpsons: 10 Secondary Characters Voiced By Hank Azaria

2. Professor John Frink

First Appearance: "Old Money," Season 2. Professor John Frink's first appearance was meant to be quite different: in the original script for "Old Money," Professor Frink was shown asking Grandpa Simpson for a cash donation to fund a death ray. Frink was written as a "mad scientist;" instead, Azaria ad-libbed a Jerry Lewis-like "Nutty Professor" voice, and the personality of Frink as a bumbling, intelligent nerd was cemented in Springfield for good. Frink's catchphrase of "Glayvin!" and other random sounds are also ad-libbed by Azaria; in the working scripts, they are merely written as "Frink noises." Frink is the go-to inventor in Springfield for whatever wacky, inane inventions the writers need that episode. Amongst his inventions are: a radio-controlled airplane for babies; the flying motorcycle; a security system that allows a house to stand up and run away in case of danger; time-travel machines and television screens; a hammer with a screwdriver on the back (which won him the Nobel Prize); and hamburger earmuffs. He also discovered the cube, and has a disease named after him, called simply Frink's Disease. Funniest moment: In "22 Short Films About Springfield," Professor Frink is apparently #22, but comes in right as the credits are beginning to run. Frink: "Ha ha wha? Oh, sorry I'm late. There was trouble at the lab with the running and the exploding and the crying... One of the monkeys stole the glasses off my head. Wh-ha ha.Oh, no, please no. I have a funny story if you listen. I even wrote theme music, here listen. Ha ha, mmm hey hey... 'Professor Frink, Professor Frink, He'll make you laugh, he'll make you think, He likes to run, and then the thing, with the... umm... person...' Oh boy, that monkey is going to pay."
