1. Jeffrey Albertson (aka Comic Book Guy)
First Apperance: "Three Men And A Comic Book," Season 2. From Season 2 to Season 16, the dangerously obese man sitting behind the counter of The Androids Dungeon (Comic books and baseball cards) was known by one nickname: Comic Book Guy. Azaria brings such passion and disdain to the voice when CBG is arguing over a comic book character's back story or the price of a baseball card, and with his presence only felt inside the walls of that comic book store, there was no need to explore him as a character any further. But as he was seen more and more outside of the store- and began dating Springfield bachelorettes like Agnes Skinner and Edna Krabappel- a mere nickname would not do. That is when the writers decided to go with the lamest name possible: Jeff Albertson. (To be fair, Matt Groening has stated he wanted the name to be "Louis Lane," a take on Superman's love interest, but he was out-voted.) Although his name has only been stated once, CBG has continued to make several appearances on
The Simpsons, his story and persona growing as large as him. He is a member of the local MENSA group, sold a superhero he created ("Everyman") to be made into a movie, and married a Japanese
Magna artist named Kumiko in Season 25's "Married To The Blob." Outside of Springfield, Comic Book Guy made a cameo appearance on another Fox cartoon,
The Cleveland Show, spouting a version of his catchphrase: "
Worst cameo ever." Further outside Springfield- outside of the animation universe- Comic Book Guy is one of the most successful characters from
The Simpsons; he is on the cover of Season 12's DVD collection; he has a book, "Comic Book Guy's Book of Pop Culture"; and is featured on T-shirts, action figures, and a host of other merchandise with the phrase "Worst magnet/poster/jacket/etc. ever."
Funniest moment: When Mayor Quimby flees town, a group of "learned individuals" takes over Springfield. At a planning meeting, Lyndsey Nagle proposes a nickel-a-person tax increase to open a shadow-puppet theater (both Balinese and Thai, so everyone's happy.) Comic Book Guy: "
Oh yeah, everyone's real happy then." Lyndsey Nagle: "
Do I detect a note of sarcasm?" Prof. Frink: (Seated behind his sarcasm detector) "
Are you kidding? This baby is off the charts... mmm-hai." Comic Book Guy: "
A sarcasm detector, oh, that's a real useful invention." (The sarcasm detector explodes) With 200+ characters to his credit, there are going to be those voice by Hank Azaria that didn't make the list. Amongst those are: The Old Sea Captain (Captain McCallister), Officer Lou, Snake Jailbird, Johnny Tightlips, Luigi Risotto, Superintendent Chalmers, Legs, etc. Who is your favorite Hank Azaria secondary character?
