The Simpsons: 10 Secondary Characters Voiced By Hank Azaria

6. Duffman

First Appearance: "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson," Season 9. When the song "Oh yeah" by Yello plays in Springfield, everyone's favorite corporate shill can't be too far away. Duffman, the official mascot for Duff Beer, is the embodiment of "self-importance in corporate marketing," according to the writers. The Duff Logo is prominently featured on his hat, shirt, and on the utility belt of Duff Beer cans around his waist. But beneath the corporate marketing and hip-thrusts, lies a much more complicated character than just an ultimate party-man. For starters, there is not just one Duffman: when confronted by Lenny, quoting a story from Newsweek stating he died of liver failure, Duffman admits, "Duffman can never die, only the actors who play him. Ooh yeah!" This is shown to possibly be true when Duffman is referred to by the "real" names "Sid," "Larry," and even once refers to himself as "Barry Duffman." Duffman's sexuality is also called into question, although that might be explained by the multiple actors playing him. Duffman refers to a wife and children- "Dufflad and Duffgirl"- but Mr. Duff VII says they were just actors for a SuperBowl commercial. Duffman did sleep with Titania during a bartending competition, and- when shot by Franke Grimes, Jr.- declared, "I love you Doris." But Duffman has also been connected romantically to Grady, a homosexual friend of Homer's. The two were married in "There's Something About Marrying" by Homer, and they have an adopted daughter (one can assume not the aforementioned "Duffgirl.") During a promotional appearance at Oktoberfest ("This Reich will last a thousand beers! Oh ja!") Duffman whispered to himself, "I do this, and I'm Jewish." This seems to contradict an earlier episode, where Duffman- confronted with choosing between company loyalty and telling the truth- openly asked, "What would Jesus do?" The answer: throw Mr. Duff VII over a fence. Funniest Moment: Moe, having undergone plastic surgery to make himself less gargoyle-ish, confronted Duffman regarding the company placing a sticker over Moe's face in their yearly calendar. To get even, Moe forcefully stuck a large sticker on Duffman's face, covering his nose and mouth. Duffman: (Collapsing to the ground, struggling to remove the adhesive) "Duffman can't breath! Oh no!"
