Top 10 Still Game Episodes

9. Shooglies - Season 1, Episode 7

Still Game
BBC

Peter Parker has that radioactive spider, Batman the man who shot his parents and our heroes, Jack and Victor, well, they have Frank McCallum. Every story needs an origin and this is ours. When Frank McCallum was hit by a tram in, what I assume was 1943, Victor rushed to the rescue and into Jack's dad's shop to sound the alarm. That was the day Jack and Victor met.

60 years on to the day of the accident and Jack and Victor are out in the town to celebrate. After an extortionately expensive lunch, the pair wander into the transport museum and end up in front of a tram, where who do they meet but none other than Frank McCallum, the man who brought them together all those years ago.

So it's back to Victor's for some dinner. Before the Viennetta can even start to melt, Frank is out the door with some of Jack and Victor's belongings, as it turns out he's not Frank McCallum at all. It all ends well however, with them getting their goods back, and a great story to tell in the future.

It's a strange episode and noteworthy not just because of the story that it tells, but because it focuses solely on Jack and Victor and a plot-line revolving around them, one of only two episodes to really do so. There's a bit about Winston trying to tag along at the start of the episode, and Isa in the lift trying to decipher where they are going, but aside from that, it's all about the two main men.

Maybe it would rank higher if Navid had been in the episode, or if Bobby had been in it for more than a minute at the end. We will never know.

(Side note, Shooglies is an old Scots' word for a tram, in case you were wondering).
