Trese Netflix Review: 9 Ups & 2 Downs
2. Up: Atmosphere
From the beautiful painted backgrounds matching real places to the excellent moody soundtrack, Trese does a fantastic job making its audiences feel transported into another world.
Each location and supernatural territory in the big city feels unique, from the secret forest in a high rise belonging to Tikbalang to the bustling Aswang meat market by the docks.
The beautiful, serene forest scenes in some flashbacks as well as the black and white cases Alexandra went on with her father Anton in the past also feel unique, delinieating between events effectively and making each moment feel fresh without losing what the series is at its core.
As a show both steeped in horror and suspense while also incorporating action and mythology, Trese balances these elements with remarkable effectiveness, the mixing of genres feeling as natural as the many moving parts and plots going on throughout the show.
For mood and atmosphere alone, Trese excels as a series, and is undeniably effective at what it aims to do as a horror urban fantasy.
