3. Up: Characters

For a long time, Alexandra Trese as a character was a largely mysterious, untouchable figure. Her motivations were kept under wraps until her backstory was revealed, with her bodyguards Crispin and Basilio providing a ton of personality that her stoicism played well with.

The Netflix series gives a deeper look into her journey, as well as her feelings about the world around her and her own personal experiences, but fortunately doesn't fail to give other cast members the spotlight as well.

The Kambal are deeply enjoyable as her ever-present companions, their backstory adding a lot of depth to what initially seem like unabashedly good guys with strange inhuman powers. Hank, as her pseudo-uncle figure and source of familial affection, gets to play a much bigger role than he does in the comics.

Captain Guerrero, who is in a way a somewhat fatherly figure, has a rich and nuanced background of his own, with his complicated relationship with his own identity as a policeman in a city where that's too easily corruptible.

The enormous cast of supernatural characters both enemy and ally also fit well into the universe, promising a lot more interesting interactions in the future.
