Trese Netflix Review: 9 Ups & 2 Downs
4. Up: The Music
Unlike the usual short, barely-there title screens becoming more and more common in streaming shows, Trese presents both opening and ending themes more in line with the iconic music of the anime that inspired it.
The opening is a haunting, dark theme sung by an Ifugao choir known as Balluha’d Bayauhen with a modern twist, which really sets the mood for the series as a whole. The Filipino ending theme, Paagi, brings in famous band UDD (formerly Up Dharma Down) to record a soulful, synthy ballad. The styles of both are reminiscent of similar dark, mature seinen anime of the 90s and early 2000s, which seem to have inspired some of Trese's style.
The music within each episode also matches the mood of the show perfectly, with the dark, horror themes mixing with beautiful indigenous voices, adding depth to both horror and action with undeniable effectiveness.
The show's soundtrack, composed by the Kiner Brothers Music, really sets it apart and brings audiences into its unique and intriguing world, and there's no denying just how memorable those opening and ending themes really are.
