True Detective: 10 Dream Castings For Season 4
5. Ryan Gosling And Kirsten Dunst
Ryan Gosling seems made for True Detective, having apparently rejected the expected trajectory of his career and turning away from the Hollywood pretty boy leads The Notebook and Crazy, Stupid Love set him up for.
Instead, Gosling has starred in increasingly darker tales like Lars And The Real Girl, Drive, A Place Beyond The Pines and Only God Forgives. Dunst’s career has gone in a similar way, with her making her name in more cheery, popcorn movies like Drop Dead Gorgeous and Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.
Since then, she’s shown serious acting chops in Melancholia and The Two Faces Of January, while her ability to carry a TV series was clear as the best thing in Fargo’s second season. Both she and Gosling are actors of serious steel that’s sometimes missed in the midst of their Hollywood looks.
In All Good Things, the pair had electrifying chemistry, with Gosling hiding his inner darkness throughout while the storyline twisted Dunst’s character into knots until it all spilled out. The film itself was only okay, but with a tighter storyline and the romance angle put aside for the violent thrills crime dramas often bring, these two could light up the small screen.
