True Detective: 10 Dream Castings For Season 4
6. Jon Hamm And Christoph Waltz
Jon Hamm has already led one of the most acclaimed shows of all time in Mad Men, while Christoph Waltz is the only actor to win an Oscar under Quentin Tarantino’s eclectic directing style; a feat Waltz has pulled off twice. If these two were cast, there would be no doubts to the quality of talent on screen.
Hamm’s portrayal as Don Draper is one of the most complex performances in television history, something often missed by those who idolise his smooth talking ways. The man is empty, broken, vulnerable; yet he’s cool, charming and full of charisma at the same time.
As for Waltz, he’s perhaps more recognisable as a villain, but his role in Django Unchained shows - if there was any doubt - that he’s capable of much more. Both are actors who are excellent at showing deep, internal conflict.
Waltz’s charm is a lot more relaxed than Hamm’s (which by design often comes off as self-serving), and their mutual abilities to play easy going characters with turbulent souls could be fascinating, especially with a time jump in the equation.
Similar to Malek/Peters, these two could be an initially easygoing pair, forever changed by what they witness.
