True Detective Preview: What To Expect From Season 2 Episode 1

Time to crack open the Western Book of the Dead.

It has been well over a year since the first season of True Detective came to an end, after eight weeks that set the internet alight with spoiler-talk, crazy theories, and general utterances about it being one of the best shows of recent years. Since then there has been fervent speculation about season 2, from where it would take place to plot details, while social media went mad on who was going to be in it, sparking the #TrueDetectiveSeason2 meme. Examples included Kermit the Frog and Fozzy Bear, Arya Stark and Sally Draper, and Lando Calrissian and Nien Nunb. Sadly none of those came to pass, but it still managed to put together a cast that is both talented and intriguing, with the expansion from two leads to four. These newcomers were Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn. Of these, it was the first two that caused the most excitement, and the latter the most controversy (Kitsch, meanwhile, is the least-known of the four, and his casting slipped under the radar a little more compared to the others). With the cast on board and Nic Pizzolatto back to write and generally oversee things, the stage was set for everything to move into gear. It was confirmed that the series would take place in California, and Justin Lin would be directing the first two episodes. The first of those is now set to arrive on HBO this coming Sunday, ending all of the talk and finally plunging fans back into the dark, morally complex world of True Detective. Here€™s a look at what to expect from the Season 2 opener€
