True Detective Preview: What To Expect From Season 2 Episode 1
6. Clues From The Title
The first episode is titled The Western Book of the Dead. That sounds like the generally mysterious sort of episode title the show typically goes for, but there may be a couple of clues as where its headed. The Western Book of the Dead is actually a real book (of sorts), written by John Y. Crighton back in 2002. It is a series of InterVarsity Press booklets, that deals with the Western world's deteriorating understanding of its identity, significance and future. Another book, A Contempary Western Book of the Dead, focuses on who we are, and where we come from. All of those sound like the kind of themes youd expect from True Detective, certainly based on the nihilistic first season, and suggests that the characters of its second run will be undergoing similar struggles within themselves and the state of the world around them. The season is set in California, which is on the West coast of the USA, and a major area of the Western world. And we can surely expect the titular dead to come into play as well
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
