True Detective Season 2: 10 Big Questions From Episode 1
3. What Does All The Disturbing Imagery In Caspar's House Mean?
A fair amount of time into the episode, the audience learns that Ben Caspar - Frank's publicly-clean business partner - has gone missing. A search ensues, leading Ray to a lavish apartment filled with sexually explicit paintings, sculptures and statuettes. His partner remarks that he didn't know Caspar was so "adventurous". The victim's prevailing fetish appeared to have been bondage - specifically the bondage of women - with several female figures depicted in various states of restraint. More bizarrely, a small nude figurine bobs around in a tiny basin of milk. The most striking decoration is seemingly separate from Caspar's sexual theme. The model skeleton, adorned with a blue headdress and golden crown, could prove to be a major clue in the overall case (or merely an elaborate prop). Time will tell... Questions Raised: What does Caspar's sexual adventurousness have to do with his murder? Is the skeleton important?
