True Detective Season 2 Trailer: 10 Things You Need To Know
4. Satanic Public Transport
Nic Pizzolatto is certainly out to confound expectations for the second season of True Detective. When asked for some information about what viewers had in store early on into production, all he would say is that it would concern the secret occult history of the United States transportation system. Which is a little more esoteric than scary voodoo cults in Louisiana and really, on paper, the only thing that sounds more boring than a murder mystery that involves a lot of real estate deals, is one that centres on the public transit system of California. Ah, but in fact, this is where things get interesting. Not so much in the shots of Vaughn's Frank Semyon chatting with big-wigs whilst standing in front of presentations about his high-speed train thing. But in the murder that the show will be all about, which sees McAdams, Kitsch and Farrell's characters galvanised, and brings the latter to blows with Vaughn (presumably). It all starts with the death of Ben Caspar, the corrupt city manager of a fictional California city whos found brutally murdered amid a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change freeway gridlock in the state...his 52-year-old corpse is found on a lonely stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Big Sursatanic symbols etched on his chest. It turns out he had a penchant for rough sex and may have been involved in the occult. Trains can be spooky!
