True Detective Season 3: 10 Craziest Fan Theories
6. Amelia’s Book Will Help Solve The Case
Now we get into the ones that directly contradict theories that have been previously outlined, and the fact that not everyone can be right has led to endless debates online.
Much has been made so far over Hays’ general discomfort with reading Amelia’s novel. Because he doesn’t like how often he features in there, he’s never even read it. That’s somewhat understandable; he already knows the story and it’s essentially a reminder of one of his greatest failures.
Some have suggested this might end up causing a bigger rift between the pair as the story goes on. If your biggest success comes via selling your partner’s biggest failure to the world, there’s probably going to be some arguments about it.
However, a much more interesting theory is that Amelia’s book leads to Hays eventually solving the crime in 2015. We already know Amelia has an eye for patterns, so perhaps her narrative helps Hays finally fit the pieces together.
A key part of this is Hays getting lost during an Alzheimer’s episode. Rather than randomly wandering, was he in fact looking for a clue that Amelia’s book had led him towards?
