True Detective Season 3: 10 Craziest Fan Theories
5. Amelia Is The Murderer
The third Amelia heavy theory on the list is definitely the darkest. Some fans have felt uncomfortable with Amelia’s slightly shifty and cagey nature, but this might be a case of fitting her behaviour to the theory, rather than the other way around. Regardless, there are a couple of scenarios that paint Amelia as the murderer.
The first one fits in with Uncle Dan molesting her; as a kindly teacher Amelia would be a trusted source kids might turn to. However, she teaches older classes so it would raise the question of why they went to her and not their own teacher. In any case, Will’s death fits this theory through struggle or accident rather than malicious murder.
However, the second theory suggests it was in cold blood and everything, including her relationship with Hays, was planned: she murdered Will in order to write a her true crime novel about the whole grisly affair. Julie either escaped or was let go in order to drum up more interest in the case. It’s outlandish, given she and Hays eventually marry and have kids of their own, but it would certainly be one helluva reveal.
