True Detective Season 3: 10 Craziest Fan Theories

2. The Teenagers Are Working For A Paedophile Ring As Spotters

True Detective Theories

The possiblity of a paedophile ring is in part motivated by the horrific storyline in Season 1, and many fans have been quick to point out the eerie similarities between the corn husk dolls and the Carcosa plot strand of that season too.

In various versions of this theory, the chicken plant is involved. Their program to care for children is just a facade to find suitable candidates, allegedly, and the ring includes various notable business leaders and officials. It goes on to suggest that sometimes they get their sights on children of workers, or just local kids from the neighbourhood; that’s where the teenagers come into play.

They might just have been there to give a creepy vibe to the opening sequence, or as an excuse to bring in Amelia as their teacher. However, True Detective rarely introduces and disposes of characters so quickly.

The theory goes that these teenagers are ‘spotters’, looking for kids that can be easily abducted. Either they’re being paid by the paedophiles or are part of the ring themselves; although them participating would shut down the powerful figures theory stone cold.

Quite how the mysterious brown sedan features into all of this is yet to be explained.
