Twin Peaks: 10 Questions That Still Need Answering

1. What Are The Origins Of The White And Black Lodges?

At the heart of the Twin Peaks mythos are the baffling and sinister Black Lodge and ethereal White Lodge. According to Deputy Hawk, the White Lodge is the residence of the spirits, which has been pervaded and consumed by the Black Lodge, where everyone must go to confront their shadow self, or Dweller on the Threshold. However, if one enters the Black Lodge €œwith imperfect courage, it will utterly annihilate your soul.€ This appears to have sadly been Agent Cooper€™s final fate. But where did the Lodges come from, and how did its inhabitants - MIKE, BOB, the Giant - end up there? How are they able to travel through electricity, as they did to capture Chet Desmond and Philip Jeffries? And how did the Red Room come to be a buffer zone between the White and Black Lodges? As mysterious as the Lodge and its inhabitants, is a certain artifact related to it, a green ring. It was owned by Teresa Banks before she was murdered by Leland Palmer through BOB, ended up beneath her trailer where Chet Desmond bent to retrieve it before disappearing, and was handed to Laura Palmer by MIKE the One-Armed Man before she was also killed. It is handed to Laura by Annie in a dream after Annie informs Laura that the good Dale is trapped in the Lodge. It apparently repels the owner from being possessed by dark spirits in the Lodge, but also consigns them to certain death. The ring€™s origins, and its relation to the Lodge, remain as puzzling as anything else on the show. What else do you want answered from the Twin Peaks mythology?
