Twin Peaks Season 3: 10 Things That Need To Happen

10. All The Dead People Explained

It's been twenty five years since Twin Peaks went off the air. That adds a nice bit of narrative synchronicity, since it's the amount of time Laura Palmer told Agent Cooper would pass before they met again in the Red Room - it's also a heck of a lot of time to have elapsed between episodes. There are changes to consider like the fact that television has grown up a lot since the show originally aired (and part of that evolution was entirely down to the groundbreaking nature of Twin Peaks), the way that the police and intelligence services who make up the protagonists are viewed in a modern America rocked by scandals in both departments, and then there's the practical implications. Both Lynch and Frost have confirmed the third season will be a continuation twenty five years on from the second season "finale", which makes sense, because all the principal cast members will have aged that much. There's yet to be confirmation of which original cast members will be returning - put money on Lara Flynn Boyle not bothering, unless she's mellowed considerably since the early nineties - but there's a few we know definitely won't be around. Pete Martell wasn't one of the principal cast members, but the character appeared a whole lot throughout the show's run, ever since he was the one to find Laura Palmer's body wrapped in plastic. Jack Nance was a longtime Lynch collaborator, too, right up until his untimely death of...well, nobody really knows, in 1996. Then there's the spectral evil of BOB, played by set dresser Frank Silva, who died in 1995 from complications of HIV. That's a much more major character missing from the cast - will they both be recast, or simply disappear? And if it's the latter, audiences will be expecting an explanation.
