Twin Peaks: The Return: 10 Most Wonderful & Strange Theories Examined
3. The Great Wally Brando Debate
After his travels on the highways and byways, Wally Brando (dressed similarly to Marlon Brando in The Wild One) rides into town on his motorcycle, making a pit stop at the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department to visit his doting parents, Andy and Lucy Brennan, who fawn over his every single word.
However, this picture-perfect family scene might not be entirely as it seems, with some theorising that the Brennans’ beatnik son may well be an actor hired by Sheriff Frank Truman to help them cope with the loss of their actual child, who possibly passed away at a young age.
As Redditor chblank points out, there is a chance that Andy and Lucy are now stuck in a psychological state of shock, where everything needs to remain the same for them; supported by the fact that Lucy is struggling to adapt to new technologies and changes at the station.
On top of this, Wally conveniently returns to the Pacific Northwest region immediately after his “parents” discuss the idea of converting his childhood bedroom into a study – a conversation that may have been overheard by Truman, who contacted the imposter to encourage them to move on.
Shelving this particular theory alongside Lucy’s poorly photoshopped family portrait for a moment, other speculation suggests that Wally’s pretentiousness may derive from Lucy’s ex, Richard “Dick” Tremayne, as they appear to be made up of the same genetic material, indicating that Andy is not the biological father.
We better hope that the Sheriff’s Department is stocked up on tissues if this turns out to be the case, though.
