The Giant, a familiar face from the original series, delivered the opening lines in the new series of Twin Peaks, but several question marks were listed alongside Carel Struycken’s name in the end credits, alluding to his character ‘evolving’ in a similar way to The Man From Another Place.

However, the identity of his ‘new’ character was kept under wraps up until the eighth installment, when the Lodge inhabitant levitated several feet above the floor, as a swarm of golden particles emanated like fireflies from his head, eventually leading to the release of a Laura Palmer orb.

Accompanying this wondrous scene was a stunning new Angelo Badalamenti score, titled “The Fireman” (according to the upcoming soundtrack’s track listing) – which we can now assume is the name of the elusive ??????? character, being that it’s seven question marks for seven letters.

Moreover, The Fireman’s residence, a massive chrome structure towering above an ultraviolet ocean, serving as the yin to the Black Lodge’s yang, resembles that of a fire station, with a siren to alert The Fireman to an atomic bomb explosion occurring in White Sands, New Mexico.

In a typically unhurried motion, he then attempts to extinguish the “fire” (or the “evil”) by dispatching the luminescent Laura Palmer orb to earth, in an effort to become the rescuer in the blazing battle of Good vs. Evil (White Lodge vs. Black Lodge).
