It would seem that David Lynch and Mark Frost share quite a lot in common aside from co-creating their feverish, supernatural masterpiece; they also appear to have a penchant for potted plants as a bonsai tree has featured in both the original series and season three premiere.

In a single stroke of genius, the ornamental shrub is placed atop a table in the New York City loft, where Sam Colby sits and watches a mysterious glass box waiting for something to happen, as part of a covert project funded by an "anonymous billionaire".

Considering the room is so sparsely decorated, it seems the placement of this object is a deliberate nod to season two, when Windom Earle bugs the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Department with a microphone hidden inside a bonsai tree.

So now we’re left wondering whether this “clue” has been planted to imply Windom’s association with the top-secret task, or whether Lynch/Frost became sappy and sentimental while filming the hotly anticipated whodunit?
