V Wars Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs
2. The Horror Aesthetic
Being a horror show, it's no surprise that the show is, well, dark - after all, it's not every day you find out that your best friend has become a blood-sucking monster now, is it? But it isn't just the thematic elements that sell V Wars, it's the way in which it employs its whole aesthetic in order to create something equally as unsettling that sets it apart from the others in its genre.
The unnervingly still shots of the forest at dusk, the long and winding corridors melting into darkness, the sounds of heavy breathing in the shadows; the show makes use of everything around it to heighten that feeling of overarching dread that runs the whole way throughout. This isn't a show that relies on jump scares - no, it's taken great effort in order to create an unsettling atmosphere, and it's those little things that ensure we're on-edge and waiting for the big moments.
A twisted masterpiece that is both visually stunning and thought-provoking.
