VIkings: 10 Worst Things Ragnar Lothbrok Did
6. Left Ivar To Die
This one directly connects to Ragnar forcing himself on Aslaug.
Not only does he selfishly impregnate his wife, despite what she warned him about but he has the audacity to leave the child for dead when he is born.
The act of Ragnar taking his infant son out into the forest is mirrored decades later when Ivar himself does the same. While the boy Ivar carries is not his own, he still believes that he is to blame for this baby's deformity.
Because of this, Ivar spent his entire life trying to live up to his father's legacy and became increasingly more attached to his mother. In many ways, Ragnar's selfishness and cruelty forced his son down a dark path of endlessly trying to prove himself.
It was even Ragnar that gave his son the title "the Boneless" in reference to his legs. The very existence of Ivar is a reminder of the king's inability to take no for an answer and his refusal to take responsibility for his actions.
