8. Bishop Heahmund
Bishop Heahmund was a holy warrior from Wessex who was loyal to King Aethelred and Alfred of Wessex, just like in the show.
There is not much information about his life, but he died during the Battle of Marton in 871 AD when the Anglo-Saxons lost a fight against the invading Danes led by King Halfdan (Hvitserk) Ragnarson. In the show he is killed by Gunnhild during that battle, but she was not his killer in real life.
He has a steamy on-screen affair with Lagertha, but in real life they would not have met. After his death he was sainted in the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church.
