Vikings: Every Character Based On Real Historical Figures

Kjetill Flatnose was based on the Viking with the same name, though their life stories were vastly different. In the show he is a Viking chief who joins Floki on his expedition to Iceland. Here Kjetill goes crazy and kills pretty much everyone besides his own family before returning to Kattegat.

The real Kjetill Flatnose was the ruler of the Orkney Islands on behalf of Harald Fairhair. However when he refused to pay tribute, he was exiled. Most of his family went to Iceland to escape, but they didn't travel there with Floki.

He did have a daughter named Aud the Deep Minded. She features in the show along with his three other children, though his fictional sons have different names than his sons in real life had.
