The Walking Dead: 11 Best Introductory Episodes

9. "TS-19" (Season 1, Episode 6)

In "TS-19," Rick and Co. take advantage of the presumed safety of a heavily fortified underground bunker to investigate the nature of the zombie infection and to discover whether or not there is a cure. Still, not all in the bunker is warm showers and flowing wine, and the survivors soon find that there just might be as much danger under the ground as above. The Season 1 finale is actually pretty light on Walkers, focusing instead on the human element of the show. It gives a wider view of the world of The Walking Dead, allowing glimpses of life in the zombie apocalypse beyond Atlanta. The sudden appearance of actual basic amenities in the bunker is slightly unsettling, and when a new character comes onto the scene, his calm assuredness provides a stark contrast to the weary desperation of the survivors. The ever-constant battle of hope vs. futility is taken to a whole new level, and the zombie apocalypse feels much more daunting than ever before. Also, there's a super-awesome Walker decapitation. Just putting it out there.
