3. Daryl Gets Creative ("Home")

By the beginning of "Home," Daryl isn't in the greatest mood. He chose his violent, verbally abusive, racist, misogynist brother over the people at the prison, and now the two of them are wandering the forest arguing over directions. Daryl hears the sound of a baby bawling. Ignoring Merle's protests, he goes to investigate, and he finds a band of Walkers attacking a Spanish-speaking family. A few men desperately fire handguns in the general direction of the Walkers, but they are clearly fighting a losing battle. Daryl rushes to help; Merle follows, but does nothing. Inside of a hatchback that the men are trying to defend, a mother clutches her sobbing infant and prays as a Walker crawls through the open trunk of the car to get to her and the baby. Daryl will have none of this, so he yanks the Walker back outside and smashes its head with the trunk door of the hatchback.
Why It's Great: Well, Daryl smashes a Walker's head in with the trunk door of a hatchback. That alone is enough to make this zombie kill great. Still, the entire scene illustrates the differences between the Dixon brothers. Daryl risks his own life to nearly single-handedly rescue a family that he doesn't even know; Merle doesn't enter the fray until he fires a single shot at a Walker heading toward Daryl. Merle then tries to loot the family's car, but Daryl draws his crossbow on his brother and tells him to stop.
