15. Daryl Steals A Horse ("Chupacabra")

Daryl Dixon is without a doubt the most popular character on The Walking Dead. He feeds babies, rescues families, and takes out tanks singlehandedly. He's achieved such superhero status that it's almost easy to forget that he started out on the show as a racist redneck with a trigger temper. He began to win audiences over in Season 2, at which point we realised that he was the only legitimately competent character of the bunch. He was handy with both crossbow and knife. He could track and hunt. Theoretically, he could survive on his own. Unfortunately, these valuable skills were tempered from time to time by his...well, personality, and never was his impulsiveness more costly than in "Chupacabra." Heading out into the wilderness to search for Sophia, Daryl decides that he will borrow one of Hershel's horses. Rather than taking thirty seconds to actually ask for permission, however, Daryl goes right ahead and steals the most skittish horse in the stable. He makes it several miles into the forest alone before Nervous Nelly bucks him off her back and sends him careening down a cliff, leaving him impaled by his own (and only remaining) arrow with some serious head trauma. Bleeding, battered, and stabbed, Daryl must climb the sheer face of the cliff, avoid hungry Walkers, argue with the hallucination of his abusive older brother, then walk back to the farm.
