The Walking Dead 5.6 Review - 5 Talking Points From Consumed

5. Carol & Daryl Reconnect

These two fan favorite characters have long held a special bond, going beyond what many of the other survivors share, but that was put to the test when Carol was excommunicated from the group following her culling the sick members of the herd. Daryl took that decision harder than the others and it looked like it had the potential to drive a wedge between he and Rick€™s relationship. The two have a bit of a €œwill they or won€™t they?€ thing going on in terms of a perceived romantic interest between them, but it€™s entirely possible that something that fans have read far more into that what€™s actually intended to be there. Daryl and Carol are both broken to an extent, with much of their damage coming before the zombie apocalypse, and that connects them in a way the others can't relate to. Daryl is upset with Carol for attempting to leave the group, Carol is struggling with her place among the group, and the two of them are working to reestablish that comfort level with each other. We got a series of flashbacks about Carol, much of which we'd already seen, which added nothing to the story and were apparently inserted just to pad out the episode. We can see how much Daryl cares for his friend, especially at the end of the episode, and their pairing is one of the best on the show.
