The Walking Dead: 6 Things "Coda" Got Right (And 4 It Didn't)
4. Everyone Back Together (Pretty Much)
One of the most interesting and daring choices with this series has been scattering the usual ensemble across the map, then slowly letting the pieces return to each other. Some stayed at the church, others went on a wild goose chase in search of a cure in Washington, whilst Daryl and Carol tried to track down Beth. This expanding of the world view gave characters a chance to flourish in different situations and contexts (i.e. away from Rick), as well as letting the ensemble breath a little. Obviously that couldn't last forever, but Coda manages to bring everyone back together in a way that doesn't forget the lessons learned when they were apart. Rick returns to his role as fearless leader, but the focus still isn't entirely on him. Beth gets plenty of scenes with Dawn before the group turn up to rescue her, there are some quieter moments of dialogue and character development between some of the other cast members. Maggie gets an emotional scene with Michonne when she finds out Beth is alive, and even Abraham gets a brief, touching moment in the fire engine as he checks up on the still-comatose Eugene. The breaking up and bringing back together of the cast has reset them, shaken things up a little, and returned an interesting bunch of characters in very different places than they started.
