The Walking Dead: 6 Things "Coda" Got Right (And 4 It Didn't)

3. Who Can You Trust?

That being said, the group being brought back together doesn't mean everything is hunky dory. Besides the emotional bombshell that hit at the end of Coda and devastated everyone in its wake, things are going to be especially tense when the show returns in the new year. Cracks are starting to show within the group, even when they seem at their strongest. They can certainly band together in a time of crisis, but there's the whole thing of Eugene misleading half of them and getting a bunch of people killed unnecessarily, the decision not to stick with the cops in their hospital haven, and the way that final scene was handled. Alliances are going to be made and broken, and trust tested. It's a theme in this episode that's begun when the two remaining hostages suggest the best way to approach the Dawn situation. As it happens, they turn out to be far more trustworthy that their former colleague who tried to do a runner €“ they never try and pull the wool over Rick's eyes, they're happy to be returned alive, and for the helping hand dealing with Dawn. Not that that was obvious at first, and it put a kernel of doubt in the mind of the audience and the characters. Perhaps they're not quite as strong as they seem, if a seemingly utopian little settlement that appeared to be doing just swimmingly from the outside can fall apart in an instant thanks to in-fighting, differences of opinion and corruption. If the cops can't handle that, what chance does this rag-tag group have?
