The Walking Dead: 6 Things "Crossed" Got Right (And 4 It Didn't)
2. Leaving Michonne Behind
When she first appeared in silhouette, wielding a katana and keeping a couple of armless (but by no means harmless, hahahaha) walkers on a short leash, Michonne was destined to become an iconic character. In fact it's a credit to the show that she managed to transcend being simply a cool image and became a fully fleshed out member of the central ensemble, and her relationships with Rick and Carl have been one of the strongest and most well-written characters arcs of the entire series. Remember when she have Rick a razor so he could shave? That was pretty cute. Even between that, her trouble with babies and sad backstory, though, she remained a badass. At least, she was, for a little while. The moment when Beth finally forced her to hold baby Judith might've been the moment that broke the character. Like the episode of Friends where Chandler finally manages to cry and then finds it impossible to turn off the waterworks, Michonne now seems to be unable to do anything but babysit. That isn't a judgement of the character, but a judgement of some particularly bad (and borderline sexist in its regressive gender roles) writing, which has reduced one of the most interesting characters on the show to a background extra who's been left behind from a situation she would flourish in. Boring.
