The Walking Dead: 8 Songs That Really Set The Mood

6. 'Lead Me Home' - Jamie N. Commons

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1d90y_52rg Season 3, Episode 12 - Clear There just had to be a song from one of the single most powerful episodes in the series. Something of a cyclical episode, three of the main characters, Rick, his son Carl and relative newcomer (at this point) Michonne head out on a supply run and find themselves face to face with a now-insane Morgan, the first man Rick met after waking up in a world gone to Hell. At the start of the episode, the crew, now hardened against those who aren't members of their pack due to events with the diabolical Governor, leave a screaming backpacker for dead. It's a stark reminder of the cruelty of the new world. Later, as the three of them leave Morgan behind to his 'clearing' of the zombies, the song plays. A contemplative Rick looks on from the safety of his car as they roll down an empty road back towards the prison, which is now an unlikely 'home' for them all. The song gives credence to this idea and also signifies their leaving behind something alien. Outside the prison, outside their home, brutality is law, as we see when they pass the devoured body of the backpacker they left for dead - a chilling note to just how far the characters have come in terms of their view of the outside world. It's not all grim however. The song seems to reflect on Michonne too, whose character begins to open up in this episode. She starts forging powerful bonds with the Grimes family, bonds which remain strong to this day. The prison is her home now - not Woodbury, not the harsh, barren forests that she trudged through for weeks. She has found a place she can belong.
